Type Effect causes image resolution loss

Using a type effect over an image causes the resolution to drop below acceptable levels (211 dpi). The client has used a glow effect around text to knock back the image for better legibility. The effective resolution of the image is 300 dpi, the text box is transparent with an outer glow effect. I matched the effect with a drop shadow using white but the problem still persists. I’ve increased the resolution of the image to 600 dpi, same problem. My transparency flattener presets: Raster / Vector Balance 100, Line art and text resolution 2400ppi, Gradient and mesh resolution 400ppi. Downsampling for PDF export is off. Printing postscript doesn’t solve the problem either. Indesign prefighting is good but preflighting the PDF in Acrobat finds the problem, so does Prinergy and Printready. The Offshore printers require at least 280dpi. I’ve solved the issue by recreating the effect in Photoshop and turning the effect in InDesign off. This is in InDesign CS6, but I’ve opened the file in CC 2014 and have the same problem. Any ideas??

      Thanks!

      Don’t flatten the transparency.

Leave it as live transparency by exporting to PDF 5.0 or above.

The effective resolution is 300dpi. It turned out to be something in the text box over the image. I made a new text box (duplicating it didn’t resolve the problem), reset the text and this fixed it. The publisher probably used a previous cover by the same author to create the new one. It’s possible the problem was created by converting an older version document, although we’ll probably never know…
      Thanks!
