I am placing text from a word file and then converting it to

tables. When I change the font the text below disappears.

I am shift clicking to get several pages but I thought my text

should be flowing on to a new page not disappearing.

      Any help

what I mean to say is when I do anything like add copy or spacing to

the doc the type on the bottom of the doc scroll down and disappears

instead of flowing onto the next page.

Do you see a red X in the bottom right corner of the frame? I wonder if the text is just getting overset? Try opening it with Edit > Edit in Story Editor to see if some is overset.

I've seen a lot of times where it will overset because a word is too long and hyphenation is turned off, particularly in tables. I've found that selecting all and then allowing hyphenation will then allow to the overset to go away and I can find the problem word.

thanks for the help guys, I think the problem is in the word file though.

I'm working with feature film end credit files. When I import an earlier draft

I don't have this problem. It just seems to be this draft and I can't tell what

is wrong with the word file. There dosen't seem to be anything hidden in the

file that I can see but the type always disappears in the same area when I

convert text to table and change the font. In previous drafts it scrolls down

and on to a new page as expected. Any ideas?

Editing it in Story Mode is a great idea from David. I love editing in Story Mode when things are being overset. Recently it was a Table that was causing the over set text. I was able to remove the table (cut it) and then paste it into the pasteboard to rework it and then place it back into the text.

      But

Perhaps non-breaking spaces is the culprit.

      Do a grep search for

      Find

      ~S

      Change

      (insert nomral space)

It could also be Keep options (CTRL ALT K or CMD ALT K – or best to edit in the para style itself)

It could be “No Break” character attribute, you can do a Text Find

      Find:

      +No Break

      Change to:

      (set no break to off)

It could be a Space Before or Space After that is too large (check the para styles)

Something else to look out for in Word docs is tracked changes. Make sure to accept all before placing into ID.

      thanks Eugene

I tried all this stuff and I still lose text when I convert text to tables.

I have gone through the word file extensively and can find nothing wrong

      with it.

If there is anyone out there up for a challenge this might be it.

I can email the word file to you (mac virus free) and you can place it

into Indesign and convert text to tables and see what I'm talking about.

I'm really stuck with this one and would appreciate any help.

thanks everyone I figured it, out a simple overflow issue I hadn't

      dealt with in previous drafts.

This forum is great and so is everyone on it.

I was just getting ready to email you to check out the file. So what caused the problem?

Please do tell how you fixed the issue, others searching the forum might come across the same problem and your solution may help them.
