Hello, I have a table that I created and have it all filled in the way I want it. Now I’m needing to make the table the exact size of my page, but no matter how I try to resize, it changes the frame size but will not allow me to set the table to the exact measurements I want it. I have tried Object > Fitting > Fit Frame To Content, but it doesn’t make the frame fit snugly around the table. I have also tried dragging the table, but it doesn’t allow me to drag in every direction. I have also tried changing the row height/column width, but it gives me that pesky little red box with the + in it. The content of the table stays the same, and my Preflight Panel shows “no errors”. Any advice? I really appreciate any input!

A table is technically one character in your main flow. So this fitting-thing won’t work. There are several ways to reach the goal:
Insert a new row above row one, merge the cells and give this one cell in row one the width of your frame. Select then your columns, and choose e.g. distribute all columns.

Cause this can be time consuming in many tables, there exists scripts (at indesignsecrets and at the scripting adobe forum), that can help you.

Thank you, Kai. I will definitely look into a script. Hopefully I can find one that will do what I need to do that isn’t super expensive. I’ve already purchased a few and really can’t spend more right now. One day I plan to learn to write them myself, but unfortunately I do not have the time to learn now. I’m pretty new to InDesign and have quite a bit of work I have to get done quickly. And I am not tech savvy or even very computer literate by any means! Thanks again! If you happen to know of any free or cheap scripts for this, feel free to share. :) I will certainly look into it! Have a wonderful weekend!

I apologize for the multiple replies. I downloaded a script for sizing tables (from this website) and ran it, but nothing at all happened. I will continue my search. I’m not sure if maybe I missed something? I downloaded, extracted and loaded to InDesign just as I have other scripts, and it asked “process all tables?”, and I clicked “yes”, then it acts like it’s doing something but nothing changes.. any ideas are appreciated! I will continue my search!

Hi, thank you for the video. I don’t really understand what is happening in it, though? I found a script that seems to work, however the content in my table is preventing the row height from changing to fit my page. I spent quite a while manually resizing everything in the table and it is still too large. Unless anyone knows of a better/easier way, I will likely try again to resize everything and see if I can get it small enough this time. It’s just extremely time consuming and even more frustrating when I already made everything smaller but it’s not small enough. Thanks for all your help! :)

Michel, is the script you demo available for download or purchase?
