True Justification

I notice that when I set type very large (96 pt), and with letterspacing (100+), the justified type doesn’t extend the full width of the frame it’s within. So the title page of the book I’m working on should be fully justified; it has a slight slightly centered look.

      Any suggestions or hints?

I don’t see any problem here. Perhaps the text has some left or right indents on the paragraph?

You can’t upload images here, but you can link to them if you have a url from image shack or one of the other shared image services.

Ah, sorry about that. Here’s a link to the Drop Box folder that has the sample PDF: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/q17hboo08ir27ej/AAALnuY_QsaSERHISpjIUf4za?dl=0

I’ve put a rule on the frame so you can see how it SHOULD be justified. The larger the type, the larger the problem.

It might just be that font. See the info here about left and right side bearings:

Also, in this case, I would not apply any letterspacing. Instead, take off the letterspacing/kerning/tracking and instead just select the “Justify All Lines” horizontal alignment. That should force the text to stretch from one margin to the next.

But again, most fonts don’t reach all the way to the left or right edge, so there’s a good chance that you’ll see extra space there in large sizes.

Thanks David. I tried changing fonts. Same issue. I discovered that actually for the single words, there is no letterspacing, so that’s not the problem..

I checked out that link. Very informative.

I’ll use my usual work around of putting the problem lines in their own frame and expand the frame slightly.

      Thanks for your help!

FYI, here’s the modified doc using the text in separate, widened frames.
