Important safety tip: If you have problems with ID 2021 crashing upon export of a PDF with bookmarks and hyperlinks, check to ensure that your URLs are up-to-date.
I was having difficulty getting two books from earlier versions of CC ID to export from ID 2021 with bookmarks and hyperlinks intact. ID 2021 crashed every time I attempted to export from the book files. I checked the fonts — no problems there. What tipped me off to the Hyperlink issue in particular was when I inspected the export preset that HAD worked when I exported to PDF for the printing the same day. The preset the printer had furnished had Bookmarks and Hyperlinks turned OFF.
I needed to have these turned ON because these versions of the PDFs are being distributed online. So, I went back into each ID file for the books and looked at the URLs that had red dots in the Hyperlinks panel. Even though Auto Update URL Status was checked, these URLs had not been updated. I unchecked, then rechecked the Auto Update, and the URLs now worked.
I also want to note that the difference in the URLs was that the syntax of “http:” is now “https:” on the sites referenced. Auto Update did not change this syntax within the files, but the hyperlinks do function properly.
