Transparent white text or some text transparent and some not

I have a text box filled with a list of awards and dates. The dates are interspersed within the text. Client wants the dates to remain 100% white but the body copy to have some transparency. The box sits over an image overlapping the photo and the background.

I know how to make the text box transparent, but it affects all the type in the text box. Tried changing the dates to outlines but that doesn’t work either.

For now I just made the body copy a tint of black but it obviously has no transparency.

      Any suggestions?

      Jeff

Unfortunately, you cannot make only some text inside a text frame partially transparent. But you can achieve the effect you’re looking for with various workarounds. For example, you could select the text you want to be semi-transparent and convert it to outlines (type > create outlines). That will convert it and anchor it in place; now it’s an anchored object, and you can set that to be transparent.

You could also create this effect with two different text frames, one on top of the other, where one frame is transparent and the other isn’t.

        Thanks David

The second approach worked. Made the one with transparent type and for the top one, made the body copy no fill and kept the dates 100%.
