    Hi there

    So, i have a new book project, it is practically the same as a previous book, so rather than go to the trouble of starting from scratch creating all the masters etc, i loaded up the previous work, > control-shift-end, deleted the previous text then placed the new text. All good so far.

    Then i noticed that the new text is longer so i had to add some pages at the end, so , ‘pages’, right click ‘insert pages’ > ‘at end of document’ with a master i know works fine. Then i go back to the text, shift>click out port, but the text only appears on all the new pages on the left hand side??? The right hand side is blank?

    I tried different masters, tried going back to the original and created the amount of pages i needed before i placed the document, but it still stopped where it had previously and i had to try and thread the text again, same thing happened.

    I can physically move them all, but there are about 50 pages so that would be time consuming and also i would like to understand why this is happening.

    Can any of you guys help?

    It’s happening because the text frame is not threaded on the master page. Go to the master page and click the port to port on the master pages, they shouldn’t have any text in them.

      And Tom this is basically what i did, but i didn’t delete all the pages, that is a great tip!

    Maybe what Eugene suggested worked, so my suggestion may be outdated. But if not, here is how I would do it:
    1. You can use any previous ID file as a master for other projects.
    2. All you have to do is to open the older file, delete all pages except page 1. Delete everything on page 1 by deleting the frame(s) that contain the elements of this page.
    3. In this way you have a blank file that can become your new master because what you did in 1. and 2. will not erase the master pages and will keep all settings and paragraph/character styles.
    4. Save this file with a new name.
    5. Now load the text of your new project (Ctrl D).
    6. When you see the icon with text on the cursor, place the cursor on the beginning of page 1 and press the Shift key. Now click and the text will flow to all the pages it needs. In other words all pages needed will be opened automatically.
    That’s all.
    BTW, there is a way to import style tags from a MS-Word file, but that’s another story. ;-)
