Text Frames Confusion

      So I produce a magazine,
A new page, I put two linked empty text frames columns on the page. Import a word doc, the cursor loaded I click in the first column and it flows to the second perfectly but does not make more pages. I want it to generate two column pages to the end of the word doc.
If I shift-click when I paste, it generates more pages but ignores the text frame columns and pastes within the page margins.
If I put the text frame columns on the master page it works, but then every page is text threaded and I don’t want one story flowing into another.
      So two questions
Can I get ID to generate new 2 column pages without the text frames being on a master
If I use master page text frames, how can I stop one article flowing into another, other than having a different master for each article.
      Thanks

Hi Jim, as you described, this is how InDesign works. You can however set the page margins exactly like the text frames, so making two columns with the right margins. The the text will flow accordingly. Another option is to split the word doc into different stories.

thanks. the wod doc is only one of many articles. but if the master pages have text frames. ID seems to treat my seperate articles as one long story. how can I stop ID connecting my different articles text frames, how can i disconect the text frames from diffent articles. if I add or edit something in one article it messes with all the articles below.

I think that’s how InDesign is supposed to work. I had the same issue some time ago but could not find a solution. So I ended up working without primary text frames for this project.
