Kia ora from New Zealand! I have just watched Anne-Marie’s public video on adding interactive form elements within InDesign CS6 and CC. I want to create a simple form with text fields for readers to fill. But I’m mystified by the terminology in the Buttons and Forms panel. I understand the type of field I want is a “Text field” — but it’s the Event and Actions parts I’m not clear about. I would have thought my Event would have been “On Click”, and then my Actions part should be “Enter text” or some such. But there’s nothing like that available to select. The only possibly relevant option in Actions is Submit Form; but I only want to do that after ALL my text fields have been filled. Can anyone show me the way here?

G’day. whats the output? If it’s an interactive PDF you can create the form areas in inDesign and then add the input types in Acrobat pro using the Form setup menu thing. If it’s not an interactive PDF but a DPS I will let someone else answer.

KapitiKit: You don’t need to apply events or actions. Just make a frame, apply the text field form type to it, then export as an interactive pdf and it should be functional.

Thanks so much David. So what I’m trying to do is a run-of-the-mill thing which just gets processed automatically when exporting to an interactive pdf without requiring any of the additional special cases catered for in the Events and Actions? I wish InDesign Help could just offer us a summary overview like that.

I can’t believe I’m struggling with something so basic!
I have a basic form which needs to be fillable.
I made some buttons which toggle, and they work fine. I also added 2 checkboxes, and again, all is good.
When I make a text field, the frame has no line or fill. When I open the pdf and begin filling it, the frame acquires a black stroke.
Can someone please explain why this happens, and how can I fix it?

Not sure, but it may be just the way Acrobat works (or whatever PDF reader you’re using). InDesign can’t control every aspect of how an interactive PDF looks in the various readers, unfortunately.

I opened your file and did not experience your issue. I used Acrobat Pro DC. May I ask what pdf editor/reader you have?

I will say, however, the text frames are kind of in the center of the line. You may consider moving the text fields up as the baseline of the text in the fields are too close to the line.
