I have a multi-page price list I’ve been working on and recently encountered a strange problem that I can’t seem to solve.
I have layers established that contain text information on product descriptions and product measurements. Additional layers were created so that I could translate this same information into Spanish for a second printing. To do this, I would select some text information on one of the English layers, copy it, then paste in place, and drag that text box to one of my Spanish layers, by going to the Layers palette and dragging the little colored box that shows the selected item to the Spanish layer I want to move it to. Then I would Select the Spanish layer and translate the English text into Spanish, or change inch measurements to centimeters. This process seems to be working just fine until one day, when I tried dragging a copied text box to the Spanish layer it just disappeared. I could try it repeatedly and overtime it would disappear. I also found I could no longer even create a new text box on that Spanish layer. Something had corrupted it. At this point I already had text on this Spanish layer on many, many pages, although i began to notice that on some page it had disappeared there too. I don’t know what the reason for all this is, but I can no longer edit any text on that layer, and I had to create a brand new layer above that one to fill in Spanish translations for all the text that was missing.
I’m pretty sure that all this has something to do with the two check boxes in the Layers palette that say “Undo Remembers Layers” and “Paste Remembers Layers”. These may have been checked at some earlier point in my process. At this point though, checking or unchecking these features doesn’t seem to fix the problem .
I’d appreciate any insights anyone could give me on this problem. I would love to know what’s causing it, and what I could do to solve it.
