    Hi all,
    I’m trying to figure out how I should create a paragraph style for a red band of color with left aligned band and centered white type on top. In the end the red band would always be the same size. The sample is what I want to do except that the type is not centered. https://imgur.com/a/rjWlPU4

    Any assistance would be great.

    Use a Paragraph Rule in your style: Define the paragraph style with the text reversed and center (with the correct font/size). Within the style, select Paragraph Rules. Select either Rule Above or Rule Below – the offset will be determined which one is selected. (Make sure Preview is selected so you can make adjustments in the offset and rule weight) Select a weight (thick enough to accommodate the text. Then choose the color. Unless you will be indenting the rule from the left or right, ignore these settings. The offset should be enough to get the rule to encompass the height of the text with some “air” above and below to nicely center the text. I find it is easier to fine tune the Paragraph Rule before writing the style. Then all one needs to do is select the paragraph and create a style.

    Use Paragraph Rules, adjust offset and weight until you get the desired thickness and position of the bar relative to the text, and in width choose Column, so it will be as wide as the text box. This will work well as long as your titles don’t span more than one line.

    Thanks David and Sol. Unfortunately I can either center both or justify both. I want to center the text on the colored bar. Now I can only center the text on a centered bar.
    Maybe I’m missing something?

    Paragraph borders and shading should do the trick. Once you’re happy with the offset, color and so on just save it as a paragraph style.

    I’m new to this forum so don’t know as yet how to post screenshots but I just created a paragraph style using paragraph shading rather than a paragraph rule and it works great. Under paragraph shading I selected an offset for the top and bottom but not for the left and right.
