I am not sure if this is the right place for this question, or if I should have posted it in the Private Member Forum, but here goes:
I come from a Photoshop background, and have only recently started using InDesign daily (and I am loving it!). I am working on the mac platform and have the full Adobe cc 2015 suite, Microsoft office, a Lynda.com subscription, and have already watched a few of David’s courses, and feel like I am learning more each day.
I have a client that needs a circular designed every week with a few hundred items on sale (Like Walmart, Best Buy, or a grocery store). While the items on sale cycle each week, a lot of them are re-occurring (usually once or twice a month). Each item has an item title, description, image, and price associated with it. The number of items and rows changes in some categories each week, while others remain static. (One section might have 5 rows of 4 items each and every week, while another section might have 6 rows of 5 one week and then 7 rows of 4 the next week).
What can I do to save time in my workflow since most of the items repeat? Would you create a table, do some sort of excel database integration? Right now I have created a document that has the “pool” of all the items I have used so far, divided into categories, and am using the Find/Change command to find the weekly items and just copy them over into the new file. I know there must be a much better way to tackle this project but I need advice on where exactly to look. If someone can point me in the right direction on what topics or videos to look at, or what techniques to research that would be fantastic! Thank you!
