Table Style won’t override existing format

I’m on a tight deadline, and I’m formatting a doc placed in InDesign from a Word doc. I stripped the formatting from the Word file, and have been applying table styles, and the majority take the style. But a couple of tables will NOT accept the format. I’ve been searching for paragraph/character styles that might be overriding, it, but I don’t see anything. Is there way for a Table Style to completely override existing styles? I didn’t see that option. HELP!

Did you try selecting the table and clicking the “Clear Overrides in Selection” button at the bottom of the Table Styles panel?

I did, and while it helped with the font, a lot of the column and row strokes are missing. But not all. I’m weirded out.

Wow, that’s very strange. I have had some weird problems with table rows and column strokes that can be fixed by choosing View > Preview on CPU. That’s probably not what you’re encountering, but it’s always worth a try.

Did you select all the rows and columns of the table before clicking that button?

Yes, I selected the entire table, and when I view on CPU, I see the same strangeness.
Hmmmm…. while it’s selected, it looks like there are multiple columns not showing. I choose to unmerge all cells, and it’s a train wreck. I’ll try removing those extra columns and see if it fixes the formatting. I’ll let you know. :)

Thank for the help, David! Bad table design, I think. I can’t delete the extra columns because the information isn’t consistently in the correct column. Rookie mistake. I didn’t find/replace tab markers in Word, and any extra tabs became columns. If fixing THAT problem doesn’t fix THIS problem…I’ll be back. :)

Now that I’ve figured out the problem with the formatting, is there a way to make the row height part of the cell style?

I don’t think you can set the row height as a cell style. There are some discussions about alternatives and scripts on the site and forums:

Define table row heights, column widths in styles somehow?

Do you have some cell style(s) applied in the table? They override table styles as character styles override paragraph styles.
