I’ve created many TOCs before, but the one I am trying to create at the moment is driving me nuts. I had an issue where the TOC was simply blank. I worked around this by creating a new text box and linking it to the main story again and it picked up the relevant styles again.

However, now when I want to tweak the style of it, whenever I update it to apply the tweaks, it again goes back to being blank. I CAN get around it by creating a new one and copy and pasting, but it shouldn’t happen that way, and indeed doesn’t happen that way in older documents. Clearly, something has happened in the new document.

      Any ideas?

That’s very kind. Have managed to get it to work, but can also break it again incredibly easily too, so will email.

I took a look at your file. That is really weird! It appears that there is something corrupt within the TOC style of the broken file. I tried exporting it as an IDML, and then reopening it, but that didn’t work. So then I decided to delete the TOC style in the broken document, and reimport the one from the working document, and it worked just fine. Give that a whirl and see how it works for you.

Many thanks for this. I’m glad it wasn’t just me. I’d tried all sorts of things, but will have a look at what you suggest and let you know.
