Superscript (endnote) reference problem

      Hi,

I’ve tried searching for the solution to my problem but I couldn’t find the answer.

I imported a large document into InDesign, and for some reason, the author of the original document chose to use endnotes for the first 100 or so pages and then use footnotes for the remaining 300. I have no idea why he did this but it makes no sense to me so I used a script to convert everything to endnotes. Now the original endnotes are where they are – no problems there.

Understandably however, the superscript numbering within the document for the original footnotes (which are now endnotes) now begin from 1, whereas I need them to resume from the previous numbering so that it flows (which is from around 142). The only solution I can currently see is to go through the converted endnote references and manually re-numbering them from 143 onwards, which I’d rather not do since there’s another 300!

To summarise, my problem is that I need the endnote references within the document to continue numbering automatically rather than me having to re-number them manually.

However, my good faith in the experts here is that there’s a solution! Please tell me there is.

      Many thanks,

      Imran

I think that would have best been corrected in Word before importing, where you can control a: endnotes or footnotes, and b: start numbering at each section, or continuous from start of document. THEN import. Once in Indesign, I don’t know that there is any way to fix other than manual renumbering.

Perhaps there is a script someone has written for this?
