Style variables?

Is there a way to use variables in styles to share styles with some variations, like color?

Example: I am laying out a book, with multiple chapters. Each chapter is an InDesign document. I would like to use common styles for all the documents in the book, but they would vary in color. So instead of having multiple objects styles like: RoundedBox-red, RoundedBox-blue etc, I would only have one style, RoundedBox, and just input the value of the color variable somewhere…

Well, I found a way to do it… using a javascript script. First, I would like to share a resource with everybody, because I had a hard time finding it: full API documentation for Indesign scripting… Adobe’s documentation is really lacking, and it’s all PDFs… anyhow, this is what you need: https://jongware.mit.edu/idcs6js/.

I have posted my code on bitbucket for anyone interested: https://bitbucket.org/TheRegge/indesign-objects-styles-manipulations-idosm/overview
It’s really not perfect, data is not checked etc.. but I am in a rush.
      Cheers!
