I hope the topic name got a little attention. I am brand new to Indesign and while I have used Photoshop for several years with my small photography business I have never used Indesign. I am taking an online college class and one of our assignments this week was to find an InDesign user group online, to join and post to it. I also have to give a critique of the site. So along with completing my assigned task I also would like to make it a useful endeavor. So my question to all you experienced designers is:

What would be your number one creative or practical tip to a new designer be? It can be a design tip, program informatiion, or career advice. Thanks for your help.

      Sara,

My number one tip: “Put your mind into the clients head”. It's the client who knows what he wants, but he cannot express it, so fist listen, then try to mingle your design ideas with his wishes.

Number two: “Never stop learning”. Always try to find new ways to achive your goals. Explore your programs as much as possible, even if you use only 5 % of what cs6 can, try to master or at least have some knowledge of the other 95 %.

Thanks Gert that sounds like some wonderful advice. I am so used to working creatively and by eye in photoshop learning to do the precise projects in Indesign is proving to be a little difficult. Steep learning curve but I will try to “never stop learning” and master each step as i progress. Thanks for the reply.
