      I must have hit some strange keyboard shortcut to get these hidden characters, but I can't figure out how to get rid of them! They arent on Adobes list https://is.gd/bjYxM or The InDesignSecrets Guide to Special Characters in Adobe InDesign.

      Pic of problem: https://twitpic.com/1e1c5c

      Please help me get to normal hidden characters back! :)

      Marvellous! An entire new set of hidden codes!

      … On second thought: you don't mention it, but I bet you are working on a Mac. Unfortunately, it's “just” some font caching that went awry — and, worse, it doesn't limit itself to InDesign but may also be visible in Mail. Or so I heard.

      Can you google a bit on how to clear the font cache on your Mac? I recall it's a simple procedure but that's about it.

      my boss did this the other week… inadvertently hit a shortcut which changed his keyboard layout on a mac… was really funny because as he typed, everything started turning japanese… literally! the fix was easy enough, go to system prefs, language and text, and make sure that only the relevant keyboards and languages are selected.

      Check out the utility ONYX. I know that it is able to clean out font caches.

      @Jongware Yes, I'm on a mac!

      Thanks for the help guys! I used Linotype FontExplorer X to reset my fontcache and system fontcache. A restart and everything was back to normal! :)
