Hi. I'm a novice teaching myself Indesign in order to format a book. I've done done pretty well so far….UNTIL I try to understand how to put a black line border around a list that fills an entire page.

I found another topic about it, and the answer was “insert a small table into your text and use that to get borders around entire paragraphs.” I have no idea what that means!!

      Help…and thanks.

Putting borders around paragraphs or lists or things like that is not one of InDesign's strengths, unfortunately. You could make a one-cell table (table > insert table, 1 col by 1 row) and cut and paste the text into it, I suppose. Or you could just put the list into its own frame and just position it on the page, or (if you need to) anchor it into the flow.

If either of these things is confusing, I strongly recommend getting a copy of my book Real World InDesign

I've got a subscription to Lynda.com and have been using your videos, but under what video title is it that explains how to do a border? Thanks for your help. This is like climbing a mountain with Keds.

A border? I guess it depends on what you're putting a border around. For a frame, it's a “stroke.” For a table (or cell) it's the border in Table > Table Options > Table Setup. I don't recall what movie I did that in, sorry! Good luck with the mountain climb! :)
