Starting Place of First Line in Every Chapter

This question is for David – I think.

I am struggling with learning InDesign CS6. Especially I am trying to get all my Masters set up properly.

David, in the one course you teach on Linda.com you tell how to use the baseline grid feature to make sure the first line of every chapter is on exactly the same place vertically even though the title may be only one line in one chapter and two lines in another chapter.

I am setting up the Master so the first line of the chapter always starts in the same place. Instead of going through this baseline business, is there any reason why I cannot just put a text frame in my Master for the chapter title that will hold two lines?

I have tried this, and it seems to work. Am I not anticipating some problems on down the line? Or am I missing some basic learning here?

      Thanks.

      Carole

Carole, no there is nothing wrong with your solution! Some people like having a single text frame to hold everything, but two frames is okay.

I use two text frames at times, especially when the number of text lines on the chapter opener has to be the same (regardless of the number lines of the chapter title). This is useful because it means you don’t need to write separate style sheets for one-lint CTs, two-liners, three-liners, et.

      Thanks to you both.

      Until the next hurdle …
