      Hi guys,

Some of the books I typeset have ridiculous amounts of lengthy footnotes. I usually prefer endnotes but when clients insist, I’m forced to do use footnotes. Anyhow, one of things which puts me off using split footnotes is the awful heavy black line which is used on the follow-through page. I like my line slim (0.5pt). I understand InDesign wants to indicate a split footnote by using something else, but there is any way to change this second divider, which appears to be around 2pt?

      Many thanks in advance.

It’s in your footnote preferences. Go to your document footnote options. Then click the layout tab. Look down to where it says “first footnote in column.” Click that and the drop down menu will have the “continued footnotes.” Select that and can control the weight and length of the continuation of the footnote rule.

Oh wow that’s embarrassing. I can’t believe I didn’t think to ever click the drop down menu.

      Thanks Dwayne!

Glad to help. And there’s nothing to embarrassed about,

I was just in the same predicament with lengthy footnotes and the dreaded split footnote rule. MANY thanks! Peter Kahrel’s InDesign scripts have also been of immense value.
