Shortcut for relink only works when Links panel is to front

My goal is to relink links with a shortcut.

But after assigning a shortcut to 'relink' it only works if the Links panel is up. So now I'm stuck with using 2 shortcuts all the time. Shift-command-D to bring up the Links panel and then my own created relink shortcut. Is it possible to do this command with just one shortcut?

Hi there McFalcon, I'm using PC but if you untick Auto-Collapse Iconic Panels by right click on the double arrow you use to hide them (if you have links on the side panel) then you don't have to bring up links panel all the time just hit the shortcut. This works good for me.

link panel on the side untick this

It should work on Mac, which version of InDesign do you have? Perhaps they are using a different version with different features?

I'm using version 7.0.4 and I don't work with collapsing panels. So untick Auto-Collapse has no effect in my workspace. What does work is to place the Links panel on it's own. (Normally it is grouped with layers and pages.) A disadvantage is, however, that it takes a lot of space.
