I am a big fan of using objects for use with type on a path in InDesign. Usually I just create simple shapes in InD and copy to clipboard but wondered if there was a quick way to take defined shapes from Photoshop into InDesign to acheive this result? I am sure there is but I am at a loss for the best way to do this – it would need to be a shape on a transparent background. Maybe I need to save out a small file but I hoped I could copy paste the path like you can from PS to Ai.

A quick challenge here? With type on a path options I would think this could be a great way to create some neat artwork and effects.

      Gary.

OK, I have solved this one way. Taking the shape from PS to Ai (copy paste) and then dragging it to InDesign works OK and the shape is a free shape without its own unencumbering background. Would be nice for folks who might have PS but not Ai to be able to drag the shape or copy it over from PS and I am guessing there is a workaround for this.

Make it a clipping path in photoshop. Then activate the clipping path in Object>Clipping Path>Options

Then use Object>Clipping Path>Convert Clipping Path to frame

      Thanks Eugene,

I spent an hour looking into this and really learned a lot about clipping paths. Works very nicely- thanks again.

So now have a couple ways to do this.
