      Hi All

I am a newcomer to InDesign after years using Quark. One of the jobs I have coming up soon is a magazine. Last year when I put this together it was 156 pages (inc cover) and contained 629 linked images (which totalled 9.13gb). The Quark file was 793mb…

Before I start putting this years magazine together, I wanted to ask what people felt was the best way of doing so, will one long document be ok, or would it be better to use the book function?

How is InDesign likely to cope with such a large document?

ANy thoughts or advice much appreciated!

Use the book function, from a workflow point of view I would consider it foolhardy to do this as one document whether in Quark or Indesign. Do it as sepearate parts and manage it with the book function.

I should probably expand on my post really, when I say I put it together as one docuemtn, what I mean is, the final piece goes as one document, while I'm putting it together I have separate files for each section, and then when it's 99% finished I compile it all into one document, would that work ok with InDesign too?

I would say to use the book function, it'll mean you can leave the parts separate but still manage it like one big document with Book.

ID's book feature is generally great — I've used it for years — unless you have a lot of automatic cross-references. See Harbs' comment last month over on Adobe's ID forum.
