      Hi

I use the german version of InDesign CS5. The problem is, the gutter (I hope this is called so in the english version) is set to 4,233mm.

Is there a way to set the gutter globally to 5mm (for example in some hidden preferences or via script or in a xml-file in the library,…). This would be soooo nice.

Now I can't use the “gutter-tool” (Shortcut U) because the default 4,233mm is the “starting point” and all increments via coursor-key will be set in 0,25mm steps.

      Does someone now a solution?

Martin, you can change most defaults by changing them when no document is open. If you mean the gutter between columns, then choose Edit > Margins & Columns.

That's it man – definitly thanks!

You have to close all documents. Go to Layout -> Margins & Columns and change the value (from 4,233mm) to 5mm.

From now on all your settings (of new documents) (gutter-tool, step and repeat at creation [e.g. frametool], frametool incl. strg/cmd and coursor-keys [+0,25mm steps],… ) will start at 5mm.
