      Hi,
I’ve got a book with 10 chapters, each using the same numbered paragraph style for numerous photo captions and my client needs to produce a spread sheet in excel that gives the number with the caption in 2 separate columns ready for them to add add various extras such as date taken etc. Is there a way to export all the text of one paragraph style to an excel sheet? Or even just to select all the text of a certain style so that it can be copied and pasted (much as you can in Word)?
Thanks so much…your help could save days!

Importing data in excel requires a certain format (tab delimited, cvs ….). When you export a peace of text it will be imported in excel as one cell, unless you’re able to select what you want, and add some formatting excel understands. Automatically selecting text with a certain para style isn’t possible, I think.

Hi Justine. A solution will be to make a “fake” table of contents selecting as the only entry the paragraph style you want. Select no page number and if there are several indesign documents in the book check the option to find the entire book. Copy and paste the text of the TOC and voilà.

      Hope it helps.

Thanks Gert and Alberto for your responses. A simple genius solution there Alberto, with the ‘contents’ which has worked brilliantly being as the image captions are generally pretty short. Thank you ;0)
