I know that we can do it on individual pages, but doc wide?

      That'd be pretty cool, huh?

Indeed. InDesign's document model only lets you select objects per spread …

You could post it on the Adobe – Feature Request/Bug Report Form.

Depending on what you want to do with such a selection, it might be possible to script it.

Nah, script wouldn't help… 'cause the thing I want to do to all of those objects is never predictable. But tks! I'll log it as a feature request!

Depending on the number of pages that you are working with, the way I get around this issue is to have all of my pages in one spread. You can have up to 10 pages in a spread. That usually covers me for what I need to do, but without knowing your workflow, it would be harder to advise you on how to handle it.

I use this method a lot when I have to recreate something that needs to match the same print positions as the original. Typically, it is a Quark to InDesign or PageMaker to InDesign conversion. I use an FPO Layer (For Position Only) with the original image (usually a PDF made from the Quark or PageMaker file) and add a new layer for text and/or graphics. I create and apply an object style for items on the FPO Layer so the transparency is about 40-50% and the layer is positioned below the new text layer. When I'm done, I can either delete the layer or select all of the items on the layer and remove them. It works much faster than working on it page by page.

      Thanks!

      Hi Teresa,

Your suggestion is intriguing, but I must say that I am stumped here:

You can have up to 10 pages in a spread.

Since the beginning of time, hasn't a spread always been 2 facing pages?

Is there some secret goodie that I'm missing? School me! :)

In the Pages panel fly-out menu, turn off “Allow Document Pages to Shuffle”. You can then snap more than 2 pages into a single spread. It's nice to use when making a Z-fold flyer, or if you're making a brochure/magazine cover with an extra bit that gets folded over.

This is a great suggestion. Just watch out for the pages you need to bleed. Don't want Cover images bleeding in to the inside pages and such.
