    I’m not sure if I have a corrupt file, but I can only find a few references via Google to anyone else seeing this behavior. I’m using the latest InDesign CC.

    The Start Section checkbox is always checked for every page. If I select the page in the Pages palette, select Numbering & Section Options, and uncheck that box, and click OK, I can immediately bring up the dialog box again and it’s checked.

    This leads to the problem of inserted pages trying to insert in the current spread.

    Thoughts?

    That’s interesting, Glenn. Yes, each time I open the Numbering & Sections dialog box, the checkbox is on. However, I think ID is doing that just to be helpful, because if you opened the dialog box, you probably want to turn it on.

    You can see if there really is a section start on a page because there will be a small black triangle immediately above the page thumbnail in the Pages panel. Page 1 always has one, of course.

    The inserted pages joining the current spread may be the “Allow pages to shuffle” features in the Pages panel menu. Those should be on if you want to add pages and have ID automatically shuffle the left and right pages (so you only have one left and one right per spread).

    Ah, David beat me to it.

    To add, however. Even if you call it up and the section mark is checked, you don’t have to uncheck it before you close it. Even if you click okay, you haven’t given it a number to start on. Just to continue with the numbering. So opening and closing it with it checked won’t cause it to be a section start.

    It’s been this way for as long as I can remember and I’ve been using InDesign since InDesign 1 (I’m not saying it was like that in 1, just that I’ve been using InDesign so long that it seems like eons that the dialogue box comes up checked when opened).
