      Good evening.

      I’m currently designing a book which has been written in MS Word. The writer made several indents of different sizes (41,31 mm / 32,75 mm / 33,78 mm / etc.). These are all direct quotations in a technical book. They should definitely have the indents, but only one size for every single one.

      Is there a way to search for every single one of these indents?

      I was trying to come up with something like “Search for Left Space > 20 mm”, but I can’t find a way to do that.

      Is it possible? The document has 300+ pages and it would very hard to search for every single one and change manually.

      I’m sorry if it isn’t very clear, English is my second language.
      Thanks in advance,
      Said Forhat.

      Unfortunately that’s not possible. Please submit a feature request (at https://indesign.uservoice.com).

      Something simplistic like that:

      var myParas = app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().paragraphs;
      for ( var p = 0 ; p < myParas.length ; p++) if ( myParas[p].firstLineIndent > 20 ) myParas[p].firstLineIndent = 20;

      The script will search between all the paras of the doc those ones with a first line indent greater than 20 (so 41,31 mm / 32,75 mm / 33,78 mm / etc.) and will apply a “20” first line indent to them!

      2 code lines but 1 single click! ;-)

      Best,
      Michel, for FRIdNGE

      Hello.

      Sorry taking so long to answer.

      Thank you very much for the hints.

      Furthermore, would you know where can I study scripting for InDesign? Is it straight out java?

      Thanks in advance,
      Said Forhat.

      Said Forhat, It is not Java but JavaScript also known as ECMAscript. If you know JavaScript and knows how to understand DOM, then you can easily learn the Scripting for InDesign. I’m also trying to learn this thing but didn’t find any Video Tutorial or an Institute where I can specifically learn this.

      If you got something (other than book), then please share it with me at: masood.designs@gmail.com

      Good Luck!

      PS: By the way You’re lucky to have a script from Michel :)
