I am trying in install InDesign CS3 as part of the CS3 suite, on a netbook, but get the message that my screen resolution to too low.

I realize that a netbook is not a great platform for InDesign, but it has proven useful in the past as a kind of backup. I had it for several years on a Gateway netbook and it worked well. My current netbook is a Toshiba, and when I installed CS3 it would not allow me to install the InDesign portion because my maximum screen resolution is 1024 X 600.

It did, however, allow me to install Photoshop, which makes no sense to me. I would certainly think Photoshop would require a higher resolution.

Is there any work-around that might allow me to install InDesign?

      Thanks.

I don't know of any workaround. The minimum requirements are pretty clear: 1024 x 768. See this page at Adobe: https://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/k…..01125.html

There's no way to food the laptop into a higher res mode, then install, then set it back again? I have to say that even if you did, you'd have trouble because some of the menus and perhaps even dialog boxes would get cut off.

      Thanks David.

I can certainly understand what you are saying. It just seems incomprehensible to me that InDesign requires a higher screen resolution than Photoshop. Especially since they are part of the same suite. I can't imagine anything needing more resolution than Photoshop with all the amazing things it can do.

      Anyway, thanks for replying.

I don't think it's to do with the viewing of images. Rather the User Interface, the panels and what nots. The minimum User Interface, like the Application Frame window might not be available at your Screen Resoloution.

Sometimes there's higher resolution available than what the default settings suggest. Try this – if it's win7, right click the desktop, screen resolution, advanced, list all modes. See if a hidden 1024×768 mode isn't available. I've also seen it suggested that if you uncheck the box that says “hide modes this monitor cannot display” (under monitor tab) you'll get other options. But I always thought that checkbox only applied to refresh rates. If you still don't see it, there's still hope. Get the latest graphic driver for your netbook, after installing it you may find new modes available. Also, it's possible there are different drivers available via intel's site vs. toshiba's.

Lastly, I found a registry hack for it:
