      Newbie Question.
With my first work done in ID, I formatted a 350 page book at 6×9′.
Is there a way I can scale the whole project down to 5.25×8?
I have tried the document set-up and page tool, but can’t get it to work for me.
I’m hoping this is possible, and I just need to configure something right.
      Thanks,
      Sean

It’s not as straightforward as you would hope.

      See thread here:

      and articles:

we also talked about this in a recent podcast:

It is a pain in the butt when you have to resize files at times.

But check with you printer. They may be able to shoot it down. You’d have to use PitStop to strip out the old crop marks and put in new ones with the new margins and gutters. And if you have any bleeds, you’d have to make them bigger in the file.

If that’s not possible–it can be time-consuming to resize, especially if there are a lot of master pagesa and none of them are based on another one. Or style sheets that aren’t based on others.

      Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback, David and Dwayne!

I should have added that this is a novel, so 99% simple text. I figured the resize, which worked, would have also resized the text boxes. And the original sized text would have just autoflowed out past the end of the pages I had configured. But the text boxes (still from the 6×9) are sitting on top of the new smaller pages, and I can’t figure out how to make the boxes conform to the same margins I had originally set up, but on the new smaller pages.

I planned to just fiddle with the font scale until I got everything to fit with the line and kerning tinkering I had done. I would leave it, but the rest of the books in the series are going to be in the smaller size, so I wanted them to be consistent. And this is for POD, so I will need to get it in shape on my end.

I have had great results with id-extras Quick Resize script. I have used it on extremely complex documents with many hundreds of images with perfect results. For a nearly all-text book, I would think it would work well. YMMV.

Michael, yes I saw that and made a note of it. Since I’m creating a new smaller template for upcoming projects, I decided to redo the project with the new font sizing, etc. since I would be setting everything up anyway.
