Running header text variable not searching backward

I found this on a site called Adobe Press:

“If the style designated to populate a variable is not applied to any text in the document, the variable on the document page will be an empty zero-width character (Figure 9.19). If the style is not used on the current page, the variable will search backward as far as it needs to go until it finds the nearest prior instance of that style in the document. In that event, the text that’s found—however many pages back it may be—will populate the variables on all page headers until the style is encountered again later in the document.”

The variable isn’t ‘populating’ on a page that doesn’t have the style. According to the information above it should find the nearest prior instance in the doc and display that.

The information from Adobe Press may be out of date(it’s from 2009).

I would like the text variable to find the nearest prior instance though so if anyone knows how that would be awesome!

      Thanks!

      Deborah

Actually don’t worry – I deleted an empty text frame on the spread and it worked…
