I use InDesign often for data merge applications to create name badges. It is a rather simple process, but there is one niggling problem of overset text when a name doesn't fit the text frame set up for it. The frame is constrained, in that it has to be where it is and can't adjust because of the underlying graphics and such.
Microsoft Publisher solved this years ago with the ability to adjust the font size to fit the frame. I have been looking for a similar solution for InDesign for years. I always end up just doing the merge and hand editing those names that are overset. This isn't all that difficult but I was looking for some better solution. Objects have the ability to fit the frame to graphics, why not text?
Perhaps there is a script or some GREP style that might work that I haven't found? I realize this is a small matter when it comes to features for Adobe, but I see them putting in what seem to be much smaller and specialized functionality with each revision. Why not this?
Any ideas?
