I am working in InDesign CS4 on a reference book will contain about 900 photos in as many pages.

I would like to automate placing my images. Here is my tentative plan:

      1. I have put a text variable into a text frame on my master page which copies the text from the first instance of a paragraph style (from each page) into the styled text frame that is created on each page—like a running head.
      2. I will name the photos with the text from the page that they are to be placed on.
      3. Replace the text with the images.

I was inspired by the Find Text, Change to Graphic post. Then I realized that that works to place a single image multiple times and I need to place a different image on every page.

Is this realistic? Anyone have a better idea how to do this?

      Thanks, Panda

Not sure why this disappeared, but this was the reply from Kasyan years ago.
