Hello! I've got a document that was imported in from MS Word. All the text is threaded, however, I'm re-arranging several pages through out the document and the threads are driving me nuts. I want to edit the document without threads.

How do remove ALL threads at once? And then, after I'm done with the updates I guess I'd like to re-thread the document. I found a help item through Adobe help site, but it was difficult to follow. I just want all threads gone for now so that I can move pages at will.

      Thanks for any advice!

It's best to use the text tool and copy and paste text rather than move pages around. If you unthread all the frames it's going to make it very difficult to edit the document again.

However, check in the Window>Automation>Scripts and then Javascript and look for the Split Story and there's another one there I think called Break Frames?

thanks for the info. I went there and found that…however, I don't know what to do once I'm there. I right-clicked on break frames and clicked 'edit script' and it took me into a world where I dare not enter. :) So I guess if there's not an easier route….

It just seems like you should at least be able to “re-thread” the order of your pages once you've set them in an order you want. I guess I need to go and study up on threading text frames more….maybe if i understand it more i can work with it.

As I said, you should be copying and pasting the text to move it around. Threading text frames all over the place and moving pages around gets very messy.

How do I know that? Because I've been there, I've done the move pages around thing, and it's a complete nightmare. So copy and paste the text to where it needs to be and leave the frames threaded.

Of course you can try it the way you are looking to do – to run the script you just need to highlight the frame or the text and then double click the script.

But I'd duplicate the file first so you don't lose the original.

Thanks Eugene. I'm going to go back and attempt to follow your advice. I'm going to have to re-thread the text in the original order though. its not a bunch of pages but tedious nonetheless.

If I click on a top left corner and fill my placeholder…and then click to place it somewhere and NO text comes up but a frame does….does this mean its empty? I have a few text frames like that that are threaded seperately from my original document. but I can't see any text in them.

      thanks again!

Very hard to tell without seeing it.

It could be a frame or column break or something – see this blog post about hidden characters and what they mean

      https://creativepro.com/lis…..y-text.php

You can turn on the Hidden characters through the Type Menu – Show Hidden Characters

You can also view your threaded frames by going to View>Show Text Threads

And you have to be in View>Screen Mode>Normal to view these
