      hi there,

i am working with regional languages(gujarati(india)) and fonts on mac. i am able to use all the fonts for typing and editing in pages but when i copy-paste it to idesign cc 14, there are square boxes. all these fonts are passing validation in mac.

i am not able to understand, how these fonts can work in pages but not in indesign.

i am having mac os x 10.9.4 and indesign cc 14.

      can anyone help?

      thanx in advance,

You need to select the text and apply the proper font. What fonts are you using? I found Gujarati Sangam MN works well (Gujarati MN doesn’t for some reason). Also enable Type/Paragraph/Adobe World Ready Paragraph Composer (from the flyout menu) for proper display. Let us know if this information helps you.

      well thanks for replying.

but that did not work. i am using third party fonts like akshar unicode, gopika, gujarati saral, lohit gujarati, etc. these are available for free downloads on the net. and these pass the font validation tests on mac. they work with pages, but when copy-pasted in indesign CC 14, they go.

however, some other third party fonts like aakar, padmaa, etc work in indesign. but changing from one to another font distorts a lot of characters leading to some editing.

(if you wish, i will post this question in a separate post.) -> creating adobe pdf files from indesign files with regional (gujarati) fonts are perfect but creating epub files generates a lot of junk characters. any thoughts on this?

I think you should stick to the fonts that Indesign doesn’t have problems with. Some free fonts are not well built and don’t render properly on Indesign as you have experienced. The same applies with epubs.
