      Hi,

Sometimes Indesign refuses to replace an existing pdf file when exporting from Indesign. It seems completely random. The pdf files are not open in any other application, but still he refuses to.

I tried restarting Indesign, Acrobat, the Finder and my mac but nothing seems to help. I have to manually move the pdfs to the trash now before creating a new one. It is pretty annoying, especially close to deadline!

I don't want to rename each pdf. (making a magazine I end up with hundreds of them…)

      Anyone???

Is the error it gives “the file may be open or in use”, something like that? Are you part of a network with several computers?

When it happens again you can try pressing “Cmd,” “Opt” and “Esc” together, and see if Adobe Acrobat or the file is listed in there somewhere. You would then choose force quit on it to make sure it's really closed, then hopefully it lets you overwrite.

“the file may be open or in use” is the error i get. it happens when i am in a network but also when i'm not.

i tried force quitting acrobat but it doesnt make any difference… the only thing that seems to work for a while is restarting my mac. i almost never shut it down. could it be because i wait too long with restarting it?
