      Hi,

Im new to InDesign. Im trying to “block out” areas of an image using rectangles with a black fill @ 60% opacity, and no stroke.

Im using the same rectangle, and just duplicating it around the image. When I line the edges up to each other, I still see a dark edge. As a comparison, when I do this in MS PowerPoint, the rectangles will blend together without any issues and you cant tell there are multiple rectangles all over the image.

I would imagine that a powerful tool like InDesign has a way for me to accomplish my goal. I would past an image as an example, but I dont see a way to do that on this forum.

Draw a rectangle in the size of your image. Then place the four rectangles for the edges and make sure these rectangles are placed behind. Now you can subtract the rectangles on the edges (Objects – Pathfinder). Then you can place an image within the remaining rectangle with the cutted edges.
