Looking at the two PDF to InDesign converters, Recosoft’s PDF2ID and Markzware’s PDFMarkz, are there any advantages to one over the other? Anything that one does and the other doesn’t?
I may need to get one for a future project, and I’d like to hear any experiences. It’s a 90-page policy document with plenty of graphics, pie charts, tables etc.
      Thanks in advance,
      Chris

I work with a publisher as creative lead. I recommended buying Recosoft PDF2ID and it’s been super helpful in reprinting old books for which we only have PDFs (were done in QuarkXpress in the 90s).

FWIW, here’s what I told a friend who asked the same question recently:

I don’t think there’s a clear winner in the Recosoft v. Markzware battle. Same price, though PDF2ID is perpetual and PDFMarkz is a 1-year sub.

In my experience Markzware is super-responsive to feedback; if you show them a problem they will try to fix it quickly.

PDF2ID gives you options prior to conversion, PDFMarkz is “you get what you get” (which is usually good).

Both are going to give you auto-generated styles and struggle if there’s any flattened transparency.

We reviewed PDF2ID in InDesign Mag 131, and OmniMarkz in CP Mag 18.

        Hi Mike,

Just adding a little correction here. PDF2ID has moved to PDF2ID Professional Suite since December 2022. It includes PDF2ID Professional, DecksMoveIn (PowerPoint to InDesign technology) and PDF2Assets (External helper app for batch extracting images/artworks from PDF Files and more). So, its not only PDF2ID anymore.

Thanks Steve. I’ve still got a copy of CS6 for opening PageMaker! And weren’t certain old versions of ID able to open old-ish Quark files?
And thanks Mike (typing simultaneously). Useful to know.
