I’m relatively sure I’ve learned how to do this sometime ago, but having done my due diligence scouring the internet for an answer, with no luck, I’ll pose it to the great minds in this noble forum.

So… for example, let’s say I want to place a photo inside a rectangle frame. Easy enough to do. Basic no-brainer Place. I click Fill frame proportionally. All is well. Now let’s say I want to increase the size of the photo inside the frame, and while I might know I’ve got oodles of space to work before I breach 100%, it’d be helpful if I could see that actual scaling percentage somewhere, either in the H and W field of the tool bar or part of smart guides. I’m thinking it’s a preference, but darned if I can find anything.

      Suggestions?

      Thanks,

      Tice

To see the scaling percentage of the image inside the frame, you need to select the image inside the frame. (It’s a different “object” than the frame itself.) Double-click the image to select inside the frame. (Press Esc to switch back to the frame itself.)

Oh boy, do I feel like a dunce! It was there all along, right next door in the in the Scale X, Scale Y Percentage fields! I was looking in the wrong place, at W and H. What threw me, I think, is that my eye is trained to see numbers changing on the fly as I resize something back and forth. Apparently that doesn’t happen when dragging a corner of the image.

That said, I seemed to remember there was a keyboard shortcut or some specific way to temporarily stop the Scale X/Y percentages from snapping back to 100% when resizing the actual frame containing the object — this with auto-fit on and holding down Command/Control key.

      Thank you, David.

In de InDesign preferences you have another option for the scaling options, maybe that’s an option.
Nice thing I often use is that you kan give an measurement inside the …% value. Type for instance ‘100 mm’ or ‘2″‘, just handy ;-)
