      Hello,
upon import from DOCX, I sometimes get a crossed box instead of a footnote number – the footnote seems to be missing, but it gets worse: say number 8 is replaced by this box in the body of the text, so the next footnote should be 9, but it has a sequential number 8 and to my horror, the content of the footnote is indeed the text that should be with footnote number 8. The problem is that that footnote is now at the place of footnote 9 where a different text should be – so all the footnotes are shifted one or more placess, making complete mess of the document.
The only thing I can do at this moment is manually put in number 8, then the footnote number update and I have the text that belongs to 8 at footnote 9, so I need to cut the text from 9 and move it to 8 MANUALLY.
in a doc, where I have hundreds of footnotes and about 30 randomly missing this is really annoying.

SO I am asking some of the scripting gurus out there, Peter K? or Jong . – would you please help to write a simple script that would simplify the manual repair?
I am thinking about this, but unable to do that in JSX:

Cursor inside a footnote text I need to move
cut all the content of the footnote
put cursor in the PREVIOUS footnote and PLACE

Such a sequence woudl allow me to speed up the fix considerably.
      Any help possible?
      thank you

      Tomas

InDesign’s treatment of Word’s footnotes has always been lousy. You can try saving the document in Word as DOC, not DOCX. That often produces better placed files in InDesign.
