I got a call from a client who's having a company video of some sort made, and the guy who's doing some kind of work on it (gotta love those bad reception cell-phone conversations) apparently wanted a PSD file of their logo to have it “fly into frame”.

Is PSD preferred over EPS or AI for video editing? If so, does a resolution of 300 PPI and a logo-dimension of 300px wide make any sense at all? 'Cause I'm not versed in video at all, but I thought the logo ought to be about 3000px wide to accomodate for “zooming” on HD resolutions, while the PPI wouldn't have to be over 96, which is what my PC monitor runs at.

This is purely a matter of interest on my part, so there's absolutely no rush in answering :)

This is a HUGE question, full of all kinds of issues. You're just handing the file off to them? I would suggest that the video guy contact you with what they want. There is no “for sure” answer. They might prefer an AI or PDF file. Or if they want PSD, they may want it in layer or flattened. As for resolution, they may want it 72 ppi or higher. It all depends on what they're going to do with it.

The video guy said 300×300 pixels at 300 PPI, but it just sounds wrong. Why request a 300PPI file if no screen outputs at that resolution?

I sent a 300PPI file at 300 pixels wide, with 3 path-based layers so they can resize if necessary, but I wouldn't be surprised if I find an email requesting a bigger file when I get to work on Monday :)
