      Hi.
I’m new to this forum. Thought I’d jump right in and ask a question:

I created an interactive document called “Test1” and have named all the text boxes, check boxes, and radial buttons a certain way so as to interact correctly with another system. I have, for example, a text box named “FirstName”.

This document was created as sort of a test, but now we’re ready to go with this final document. So I decided to create a template, called “Template” and use that for other documents. It contains a graphic, and some master pages. I wanted to make “Test1” just like the template, so I created a new doc with the template, copied/pasted the text from “Test1” into the new templated untitled doc. When I check the field names, they all have a 2 on the end of the text box’s name.

I assume this is because I copied the document and, even on the clipboard, the field names get updated with the 2.

Is there a way to copy/paste the text into a new doc without the field names changing? I’d really like to get the text into the templated document “Untitled 1”?

Or can I apply a template to an existing ID document?

Thanks! I look forward to being a part of this group!

Hm. That is interesting. I cannot find a way to duplicate a button and keep the name. Even when I export as IDMS (“snippet”) and place that snippet it changes name slightly, adding a 1 or 2 after it. Same thing when adding to a library or a CC library. Even when dragging from one document to another.

So, sadly, I think the answer may be no.

Thanks David. (I enjoy your titles on Lynda.com, by the way).

I didn’t think so. And there doesn’t seem to be a way to apply a template to an existing document. No matter. I can get around it.

      Thanks!
