      Hi all –
I design catalogs and send native ind files to prepress. I have just recently been creating my QR codes within InDesign (life saver!) and am running into issues at prepress. They show as missing image links on the prepress end, but never show up in my links panel as an image. I’ve looked to try to embed the QR code, but can’t find an option.

Any insight on how to prevent this issue?

InDesign treats them as embedded vector EPS files (although you can’t “unembed” them).
You can create a QR code, export to PDF, open in Illustrator and save and/or copy/paste the vector into InDesign (obviously scanning and checking it for readability).
Alternatively, use a dedicated QR program or service to create them.

Thanks Steve! We have previously been making our own QRs on a website, so we will probably continue to utilize that method since it requires less steps.

Similarly, do you know anything about deleting the GenAI image data created in InDesign? For example, I created an image and ended up not using it. Simply deleting the image from the page doesn’t work, as it still has the image listed in the links panel.

this was a bug that I reported – I had a 29.6 GB file because of all the AI variations that weren’t deleted!

Isn’t there a way that they can train the prepress system to ignore the QR codes?

Exactly. It’s seeing a problem where there is none.
