Can you leave a PSD image when creating a pdf for press? I think it’s ok, but always used to convert to TIFF or EPS and that’s haunting me now.

      Thanks!

      Jacqueline,
      Absolutely.
I convert all images to either PSD or AI for use in InDesign.
I do the CMYK conversion at this point, rather than rely on the conversion process during Export.

Why? Do you think convert during Export does not always give good results, or is it a problem for some commercial printers? I can think of one advantage, if you convert in Photoshop you can see the effect on color and further adjust in CMYK if needed.

Yes, you can keep files as native files, such as PSD and AI.
I strongly recommend NOT converting to CMYK (have written about that extensively, such as this article).

      David,
Great article on the topic of converting to CMYK.
      Thanks

Yes- that is the reason. I have had some nasty surprises with “difficult” colors.
However, that was some years back, and I switched to CMYK workflow at that time, and for that reason.
David’s article points out that technology has come a long way since then, and certainly placing as RGB saves quite a bit of time, especially on large projects.
I am planning to take his advice, but keep a watchful eye out for images with difficult colors.
