Have been using inDesign for about 5 y. now, beginning with annual calendars. 2 y. ago I spawned a book from the calendar format (.indd file), and that was printed and published successfully.
Earlier this month I spawned a second .indd book from an inDesign (.indt) template created from the first book. When that began showing problems I inquired with inDesign help, sent them a copy of the file in question, and was told that the file had somehow become corrupted.
Then I took a couple steps backward to try to unravel the corruption, and in the process discovered that perhaps I might be better served by starting over from scratch and using the .indb format instead of .indd. I stumbled onto this question when trying to create a new document, and was prompted to choose indb vs. indd. I’m assuming that those initials refer to ‘book’ vs. ‘document’.
So you can see that, given the above history, I’m somewhat mystified as to why/how the inDesign support system, after 2+ years struggling with book-related issues, allowed me to get this far with .indd when in fact I should have been using .indb, if indeed that is the case
Absent any better ideas, I’m going forward with three options to see which will get me to a successful end-point in the shortest time:
1- New indd book from successful, existing indd book;
2- New indd book from indd template (this seems to be the least attractive in that it appears at this point to be the cause of the corruption);
3- New indd book from scratch.
Any insights appreciated. Thanks in advance.
