    Hi,

    I’m used to CS 6 (laid out 224 page book) but newbie with 2017 – and grateful for any help.

    1) When I group objects, then CMD-X and paste on another page, the group has become a graphic and cannot be ungrouped. Why? (All in single layer).

    2) When I copy and paste a text box with text, the test becomes uneditable. (None pages, not Master pages)

    3) When I select several text boxes with text, duplicate or copy, then paste, the individual boxes have become a single box and the text uneditable.

    I’m sure none of this occurred in CB6, so what am I missing?

    I had that happen a few years ago (copying and pasting a text box turned it into an uneditable graphic kind-of thing.

    I don’t remember what the cause was, or how I fixed it. I may have exported the file as IDML and then opened that. I don’t believe I rebuilt any preferences.

    Is this happening with just this document or doesn’t it matter?

    thanks – at least I know it’s not just me. Evidently Adobe changed Preference settings in one of the newer versions so that an obscure PDF setting causes the problem; at least, since changing the preference setting I have not had the problem again. All the best.

    Hi,

    Preference – Clipboard Handling – DEselect PDF options

    I’ve now enrolled in David’s course on Lynda. Rebuild my understanding from the ground up.

    Laid out a whole book, 224 pages – Marine Diesel Basics, the first VISUAL guide to marine diesel systems – using CS6 and could not believe how much time I’ve wasted because of “minor” changes between CS6 and CC2017 that seem to be undocumented.

    Another problem happened today…

    Copy then no Paste in drop down menu.

    Turned out to be corrupted Preferences file.

    Glad my tutorial has been helpful for you, Dennison. Wow, it certainly sounds like you have had your fair share of strange problems this week! Sorry to hear it.

    I have never run into the paste problem you had, where the objects turned into a graphic. Even with the preference set, that shouldn’t happen if you’re just pasting from one location in InDesign to another! Weird.
