Problem with lists in ePub export

I thought I posted this question yesterday, but I don’t see it here. So let me post it again. I laid out a document that consists of 11 pages, three paragraphs of text and the rest is a numbered list (1-5). Under paragraph 5 there is a numbered sublist (a-c). There are also bulleted lists under every paragraph in the numbered lists, but I don’t think they have anything to do with the problem. I set the numbered lists up properly, by defining a list (“Numbered”) and making the numbered list level 1 and the sublist level 2. So everything looks right in the ID file. But when I export the document to ePub the sublist that’s supposed to appear after paragraph 5 appears instead after paragraph 6, that is, after the last numbered list. It’s as if ID understands that the level 2 list should go after the level 1 list, but only at the end of all level 1 lists. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

That does sound really weird. Is this all one big story? You aren’t using text frames anchored inside other frames, or separate stories or something?

Yes, all one story. Just 11 pages. Very simple document. All frames are threaded properly. No anchors of any kind.

But I misspoke in my explanation of the problem. There are 6 numbered paragraphs, not 5. The sublist (a-b) appears after paragraph 5 in InDesign, but after paragraph 6, the last numbered paragraph, in the ePub. To test my theory that ID is placing the level 2 list after the last level 1 list paragraph (not where it is in the ID document, after paragraph 5) in the ePub export, I added one more level 1 paragraph (7) consisting of two words. In the export, the level 2 list appears after paragraph 7.

It’s something unique to this document. I made up a new ID template with 2 levels of numbered lists and bulleted lists and placed a generic Word document in it. When I exported it to reflowable ePub the problem did not repeat itself. Wish I knew what it was. I like a good mystery.

Hm… that does sound like a good mystery. Just in case: try exporting the document to IDML and then opening that IDML and exporting the EPUB again from the new file.

No, same problem. Must be something in the Word document, which was created by my client.
