Problem searching for font family

I was so excited to read Keith Gilbert’s article “A Script to Edit Styles with Find/Change”–a great solution for all our paragraph styles that use the Adobe Garamond font. The styles need to be updated to Adobe Garamond Pro to get ready for the move away from Type 1 fonts in January 2023.

However, the Find/Change window is unable to find Adobe Garamond! The “Font Family” options in the “Basic Character Formats” pane shows “Adobe Garamond”, but clicking on it gives “Adobe Garamond Pro” in the search field. Text searches and GREP searches give the same result.

In the Type menu, “Find/Replace Font…” works fine, but that isn’t what the script uses.

I exported the file to idml and tried again, in case it was a corruption issue; no luck.

In a file with only Adobe Garamond, Find/Change can find the Adobe Garamond family, but if I change any text to Adobe Garamond Pro, it only accepts Adobe Garamond Pro in the Font Family field. (This did supply a workaround for using the script: set Find/Change in a file with only Adobe Garamond.)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I forgot to say that I’m using InDesign 15.1.3 on a mid 2012 Mac Pro, running High Sierra, 10.13.6

I strongly suspect that even though the name of your typeface might be the same, the vendor/foundry is different and as such doesn’t register in INDD as being the same.

Hi, Steve, thanks for your response. We downloaded both font sets from Adobe and they are both listed as copyrighted to Adobe Systems Incorporated.
