I am using the same template to create a book with InDesign CS6. I have a Dell computer with Windows 10 operating system. On the 12th chapter, InDesign will no longer print directly to my HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. I can export to a PDF and then print, but that is just another step in the workflow.

When I select print, the page content streams like it is going to the printer and then nothing happens. The correct printer was selected, but my printer queue tells me there are 0 documents pending for print.

This is the first time I have encountered any functional problem working with InDesign. I tried resetting the preferences to see if that would solve the problem, but no luck. Any suggestions?

Is it just Chapter 12 that is affected?

I’m guessing there is something in Chapter 12 that the printer doesn’t like. Maybe a piece of art with a bad preview? An accented character it doesn’t recognize? Things not printing can be a royal pain.

You may have to print a few pages at a time of chapter 12 and try to determine the problem page.

I had that problem once. It was an unknown font on one space. Never mind that InDesign never said I had a missing font. It took me an hour to narrow down the page and when I highlighted a paragraph (with no overrides), the font was blank. Fixed and then it printed.

      Good luck.

And like you–the job spooled to the printer, but then the printer rejected it.

      Hi Dwayne,
I appreciate you taking time to share your experience. I will keep that filed away for future problems.

At first, I thought it was just Chapter 12, but when I went back to previous chapters (that had printed either all or just a few pages fine), nothing in any of them worked either. That’s what made me think perhaps my preferences had changed, but that does not seem to be the case.

Regardless of the previous chapter or page I choose, everything is just spooling to the printer and then nothing happens. The only way I can get anything to print is to first export it as a PDF. Seems like it would be a simple fix, but searching for the reason is (as you say) a royal pain.

      Thanks so much!
